Community Foundation Invites Citizens to Give in response to Storm
Blue Mountain Community Foundation has created a fund to assist community recovery efforts after last Friday's wind storm. The Storm Recovery Fund will pool donations from individuals, businesses and other foundations. By gathering resources in this way, donors' contributions go farther, and the effect of their giving is multiplied—impact is achieved on a much greater scope than would be possible with a single donation.
Blue Mountain Community Foundation will continue its longstanding collaboration with many community agencies to get money where it will make an impact in the short and long term. From helping families who cannot afford home repairs, tree care or re-planting, to providing assistance to charitable institutions that sustained damage in the storm, the grants will be given to area agencies in a variety of areas in the coming months. These include:
Health and Human Services Grants: In collaboration with community agencies, provide assistance to the most needy in our community, including low income families, senior citizens and people with disabilities. These investments will seek to restore resources expended in direct response to the storm and its fallout.
Reforestation Grants: Tree planting to keep our towns and cities green. Hundreds if not thousands of trees in the urban forests of area communities were lost. Re-planting now to ensures that our communities will continue to enjoy the benefits of healthy trees. Other environmental impacts of the storm will also be considered.
Storm Recovery Grants: Money will be given to area non-profits that suffered property or casualty losses not covered by insurance or governmental aid.
Once the Foundation understands the scope of generosity, a process for grant awards and the anticipated size of grants, will be shared.
