Guidelines For Grant Applications
Deadline: Monday, July 2, 2007
Blue Mountain Community Foundation is a public community foundation, which administers charitable funds to benefit people of the Blue Mountain area. Grants are made to tax-exempt charitable organizations who qualify for IRS 501(c)(3) status. The majority of the funds available for discretionary grants are designated for use by agencies serving Walla Walla County. This year, a total of $153,690 will be awarded. Of that amount, $17,750 is available for grants to agencies outside of Walla Walla County who serve the Blue Mountain area, from Dayton to Athena. Grant awards generally range from $1,000 to $10,000, with the average award being $3,000.
The Foundation’s grantmaking policies are generally directed toward the fields of social and community services, the arts and humanities, education and health. In reviewing grant applications, Blue Mountain Community Foundation will give careful consideration to:
- Potential impact of the program/project on the community and the number of people who will benefit;
- Local volunteer involvement and support;
- Commitment of the organization’s Board of Directors;
- Degree to which the applicant works with or complements the services of other community organizations;
- Organization’s fiscal responsibility and management skills;
- Possibility of using the grant as seed money for matching funds from other sources;
- Ability of the organization to obtain additional funding and to provide ongoing funding after the term of the grant.
The Foundation typically awards one-year grants, however, requests for multi-year grants will be considered. Plans for evaluating the program/project should be included in the application.
Grant applications will be reviewed by the Foundation’s Grant Review Committee, which will make recommendations to the Board of Trustees for final determination of grant recipients and awards. Grants will be announced at the Foundation’s Annual Meeting in late October, 2007. Grants usually will not be made for the following: programs outside the Foundation service area, annual fund drives, field trips, travel to or in support of conferences. No grants will be made for sectarian religious purposes nor to influence legislation or elections.
Please call the Foundation if there are any questions about grant applications.
